National Dialogue Call by President Kiir

On December 14th, 2016, president Salva Kiir Mayardit calls for a national dialoue accross the country on his address to the  National Legislatures and the attending diplomats. The call comes at the right time when South Sudanese are facing serious economic meltdown and ethnic disintegration.

The writer of this article and the other South Sudaness that heard several speeches of the president raise questions of successful realization of the natio sm dialogue policy since there are some issues that are seen as blocking factors . If this call that is warmly welcome by the desperate citizens of South Sudan comes to be true, hence there will be great hope of lasting peace and unity of all tribes in the country. I still wait to see.

Before the national dialogue starts, it is in the opinion of the writter that the following be addressed amicably:

1. Government of National Unity must use all its rare resoures, if available, to provide food to thousands of South Sudanese that are facing severe hunger in the rural and urban areas across the country. Dialogue of any kind is possible when the minds of the people dialoguing is free from all sort of issues that may hinder progress.

2. The economy of the country has been in a bad shape for the last three years of the conflict and it has been worsening everyday. The writer recomnends that the govenment takes immediate steps in addressing this economic difficulties so that there will be thereafter a meaningful dialogue among the people of South Sudan.

3. Currently there is still active rebelion and armed men in some areas of Upper Nile and Equatoria regions. Steps need to be taken by the parties in the accord  to stop the bloodshed in order to allow conducive environment for national dialogue.

The writer sees that the above mentioned arguments may be in one way or the other, obstacles to the national dialogue call by the president, and addressing them beforehand would create a meaningful and conducive environment for dialogue.

Once again, the writer welcomes president’s calls for national dialogue to restore peace and tranquility in South Sudan, but only if the above worries are considered priority before dialogue kicks off for better results.

  1. Thanks for the contribution. How are the people involved? How is the army involved? What about the uN? How have the neighbouring countries contributed to peace in the region? Has this been taken over by African Union as well? Thanks.
